Absolutely Joanne, it is the one or two folk I meet who inspire me with their courage, determination, support and encouragement who get me through the baaaaaaaaaad times! Oh and that ever ready shoulder to cry on, of course! In my opinion, its all worth the ongoing effort a thousand fold! The...

I divorced my husband after twenty years of marriage, I changed my self in many ways and totally saw my personality in a different light altogether. It changed my relationships with my family, not ...

It is a shame. It is difficult work that we do, dealing with emotions all the time, our own and other folks. Of course we all have issues and there are triggers which set off our insecurities and personal demons. There is challenge and growth and there is attack and defense. To know when which is ha...

Well. I would leave but I cannot work out how to  Yes, I do know that we need to be challenged and grow in this way but, for goodness sake, there is a challenge and there is out and out attack and rudeness! Counselling is a lonely business as it is. Oh well! Whatever! I am sure there are many ...

Oh dear. I am obviously not coming across very clearly. The written word can be so misunderstood. I do not want to enter into a debate here. I merely meant that I am engaged emotionally with my clients, both male and female. I have not actually ever come across a male who wants a hug, male clients h...

By rules and regulations I mean internal or external. Mainly external. I do not remain emotionally detached from my male clients as I am a person-centred counsellor, how can I be a counsellor and remain emotionally detached? Surely this would not be acceptable? I guess it depends on your definition ...

Hi Faye, I have been counselling for over six years. I gained my Cert and gained a placement at a Rape Crisis Centre, I also worked for a year at a Douglas Macmillan Hospice and then I completed my Diploma last year and have worked for nearly two years at a Bereavement Service. So, I gained quite a ...

Hi All, Just come back to this site after a long break. Qualified now and all essays out of the way until my next course :D Thank you for all your replies. It goes to show how differently we all view the counselling process and all that it entails. We have our theories and boundaries and limits, we ...

Hi there, Well it seems you have found a course that you will be able to do which will fit in with your child care and will give you a Diploma. As an accredited course is only a part of becoming accredited maybe this won't be such a big problem for you. You can become accredited anyway whether you a...

I am currently starting up private practice and advertising. I am finding that reputation and word of mouth is invaluable to attract clients. What better recommendation of the benefits and the highs and lows of the therapeutic relationship than a client spreading the word to other folk. I am hoping ...
